What does FEV1 mean?
The amount of air exhaled in the first second of forceful expiration
What does the FEV1/FVC ratio show?
In obstructive lung disease, FEV1 is reduced so ration will be reduced.
In restrictive lung disease FEV1 and FVC are both reduced so ratio stays the same
What is an obstructive lung disease?
Increased airway resistance- COPD, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, asthma
