Ice And Rain Protection Flashcards

0
Q

Describe the ice detection system.

A
  • two automatic independent AC ice protection probes.
  • piezoelectric - ice changes probes’ rigidity and therefore the frequency of vibration.
  • If either prove detects ice, ICE DETECTED appears on the ED
  • After ice is detected, the probes are heated, allowing them to detect ice again.

Q

Which ice and rain protecting equipment is heated?

A
  • Leading Edges of the Propeller Blades
  • All three pitot static tubes (#3 is DC)
  • Both AOA Vanes
  • Both windshields and the pilot’s side window

Q

Describe the airframe de-icing system.

A
  • 6 sets of boots adhered to leading edges of the wings, empennage, and engine inlets.
  • Controlled by the ice protection panel. FAST = 1 minute = 6 seconds per boot set (6x6=36) + 24 seconds dwell. SLOW = 3 minutes.
  • P2.7 bleed air continuously supplied to system
  • 6 DDVs with integrated heater elements use that air to control inflation and deflation.
  • heater elements activate automatically at 5°C or when the mode select knob is at MANUAL.
  • boot ISO switch cuts system in half.

Q

What are two possible causes of a DEICE PRESS Caution Light?

A
  • Loss of system pressure (check DEICE press indicator gauge on copilot panel)
  • Continuous inflation or failure of a boot. (Boot leak, or DDV malfunction)

Q

Describe the Propeller DEICE SYS.

A
  • Two identical TMCUs control the operation of propeller deicing.
  • The TMCUs monitor Np, SAT, and faults.
  • The propellers alternate heating cycles.
  • “ON” will activate the system, provided that SAT is less than 5°C and Np is greater than 400 RPM.
  • Propeller Heat Indicator Lights illuminate with heat activation.
