IC-IPE Flashcards
• Purpose of IC-IPE
◦ Ensure core and NCS does not exceed there safety limits during operation and design basis occurrences
◦ Help ESF mitigating an accident
•System design basis to prevent core damage and protect NCS integrity
Keep DNBR above 1.14
NCS pressure below 2735
Keep fuel rod linear power below 18 Kw/ft
Pervert fuel center line melt at 5080 degrees
• Componets of IC-IPE
◦ 4 redundant channels ◦ NIS cabinet ▪ 2 source range ▪ 2 intermediate range ▪ 4 power range ◦ SSPS ▪ Two cabinets, Train A and B ◦ NCP Monitor cabinet ▪ voltage and frequency of the NCP's
• Power sources of IC-IPE
◦ Protection set 1 (Channel 1) 120 VAC EVKA
▪ Processes control channel 1 (PCS Cabinet 1)
• NIS channel 1
• SSPS Channel 1 Input bay (Trains A and B)
• Turbine trip relays channel 1
• 48 VDA and 15 VDA power supplies
• SSPS Train A Output cabinet
◦ Protection set 2 (Channel 2) 120 VAC EKVB
▪ All the above for channel 2 except for SSPS Train A
◦ Protection set 3 (Channel 3) 120 VAC EKVC
▪ All the above for channel 3 except SSPS Train A
◦ Protection set 4 (Channel 4) 120 VAC EKVD
▪ All of the above for channel 4 except SSPS Train A
▪ Powers SSPS Train B Output cabinet
◦ Loss of a power source (Loss of a channel)
▪ All the bistable for that channel go into there tripped position
▪ All control room stat lights feed by that bistable turn on (EXCEPT for NS → energize to illuminate)
▪ Logic will change from 2:4 to 1:3 or 2:3 to 1:2
▪ Should not cause a Rx trip
• System Alarms IC-IPE
◦ PCS 2/4 cabinet doors open
▪ Warns of possible trip by having work done in two cabinets at the same time. Will not cause general warning or trip. Warns operator.
◦ SSPS General Warning → reduction in protection by one of the following
▪ Loss of 48 VDC or 15 VDC power supply
▪ Printed circuit card not inserted properly
▪ Test switch in test
▪ Bypass breaker racked in and in connect
▪ Logic ground fuse blown
◦ First Out Alarm
▪ First alarm for a Rx trip will be red, subsequent alarms will be white
▪ Do not reset until a note has been made of what caused the trip
• Limits and precautions IC-IPE
◦ Rx trips on power range high flux (low set point) are unblocked when below interlock and permissive set point
▪ Power range low set point protection automatically reinstates.
◦ At power trips are automatically blocked (or unblocked) as nuclear power is decreased below (or increased above) the set points for the interlock P-7
▪ These trips include:
• Pressurizer high water level
• Pressurizer low pressure
• 2 loops loss of flow
• NCP bus under-voltage or under-frequency
▪ Protection automatically reinstates
◦ Control rod withdrawal is blocked (or unblocked) below 15% power as turbine load is decreased below (or increased above) set point C-5
▪ Plant systems are unstable below this point
◦ Only ½ decade left above P-6 when increasing power to block SR trip. Must do immediately upon receiving P-6
▪ Avoid a trip

INTERLOCKS LOGIC FUNCTION
P-4 Train A or B Reactor Trip • Turbine Trip
• Feedwater Isolation 10-10 amps Allows manual block of S.R. Reactor Trip. De-energizes high voltage to the Source Range detectors. On decreasing power, Source Range Level trips are automatically reactivated and high voltage restored.
P-7 2/4 P.R. > 10% FP (P-10) or 1/2 impulse pressure> 10% (P-13) On increasing power P-7 automatically enables the following trips:
• Pzr High Level
• Pzr Low Pressure
• Low NC Flow 2/4 Loops
• NCP Undervoltage
• NCP Underfrequency
On decreasing power the above listed trips are automatically blocked.
P-8 2/4 P.R. > 48% FP On increasing power P-8 enables the 1/4 loop loss of flow Reactor Trip and Reactor Trip on Turbine Trip. On decreasing power, P-8 automatically blocks the above listed trip.
INTERLOCKS LOGIC FUNCTION
P-10 2/4 P.R. > 10% FP On increasing power P-10 allows manual block of the Intermediate Range trip and rod stop (C-1). Allows block of the Power Range High Flux Low Setpoint trip and prevents the Source Range instruments from being Manually energized. (Will automatically de-energize both source range detectors if not previously de-energized at P-6.) Also provides an input to P-7. On decreasing power, the Intermediate Range trip and the Power Range trip are automatically reactivated, allows manual reset of SR High Voltage block if one IR channel does not decrease below P-6 to auto energize the SR circuit.
