Anti inflammatory drugs

Balsalazide, Medsalamine, olsalazine, Sulfasalazine
1st line for mild-moderate UC, not effective for crohn’s
Not absorbed in stomach
Antiinflammatory drug that has side effects
Sulfasalazine because it’s a sulfadrug. hypersensitivity, decreased folate absorption

BUDESONIDE, PREDNISONE, PREDNISOLONE
Antimetabolites
AZATHIOPRINE, 6-MERCAPTOPURINE, METHOTREXATE
Corticosteroid uses
moderate to severe active IBD
Budesonide has less systemic effects
Antimetabolites uses
induction and maintenance of remission of UC and CD
Monoclonal antibody drugs (2)
INFLIXIMAB, NATALIZUMAB
INFLIXIMAB MOA
against TNF-alpha
***Infliximab can lead to symptomatic improvement (60%) and remission (30%) in patients with moderately severe CD – SIGNIFICANT

Anti-alpha 4 subunit of integrin? used for MS and Crohn’s
can reactivate JC virus
