Students tend to submit to authority as a means of control
- It is up to instructor to know what controls are best for the existing circumstances
- Create an atmosphere that enables/encourages students to work towards their goals
What is Anxiety?
A state of uneasiness arising from fear
How can you counter Student anxiety?
- By reinforcing enjoyment of flying
- teaching them to cope with their fears
- treat fears as a normal reaction, do not ignore them
What is a normal reaction to stress?
Responds rapidly and exactly within the limits of the experience and training
When does Communication take place?
When a person transmits ideas/feelings to another
Effectiveness is measured by the similarity between the idea transmitted and the idea received
The goal of communication is a change of behavior
What are the 3 basic factors of an effective communicator?
1) Using proper language
2) Revealing a positive attitude towards the ideas being communicated
3) Using up-to-date and stimulating material
What is instructional communication?
- Knowing the topic well
- Using past experiences to illustrate particular points
- Determining student’s level of understanding by some sort of evaluation
Open ended vs. focused questions?
Open ended Q’s allow the student to explain more fully
Focused Q’s allow the instructor to concentrate on desired areas
What is Instructional Enhancement?
The deeper the knowledge about an area, the better the instructor is at conveying it
