A

In early 1914, Europe was deceptively calm, masking the tensions that arose between powerful European leaders who felt that the developments occurring in Europe at the time would negatively impact the power and reputation of their respective countries. A series of crises that had happened from 1900 onwards led to friction between European powers so high that even the faked calmness could continue no longer and the last resort was war.

Statement 2

A

The first world war had highly significant influences. In addition to killing over 9 million people, many historians agree that the war ended Europe’s world supremacy, allowing other countries to take that position. Post-war chaotic government systems crumbled quickly and led to the rise of new government concepts such as communism and fascism.

Statement 3

A

Propaganda during the world war, especially against Germany, was made easy when Germany invaded Belgium and France in August 1914, forfeiting its moral high ground. Due to this, “Poor Belgium” was a rallying cry for Germany’s enemies. Propaganda was also prevalent when Germany and Britain fought for America’s sympathy, a useful asset in the war.
