When Chief says “smoke houses,” he means houses, or apartments. It is what his people called them, and was a one-story, and long house with a fire pit and “apartments separated by blankets.
How does Chief feel about people who live in “smoke houses”? Why are these feelings important to his message?
Chief is upset about the people who live in the “smoke houses” because he says that since they live separately, they don’t know each other and could care less about them. These feelings are important because he feels that we should have good relationships

What puzzles Chief about his “white brother” is why Americans and people in North America have wars, and kill and destroy/damage nature. he believes from his culture that you should respect the things and resources that have been given to you

What Chief says about his “white brothers” ability to love is that he wonders if they love at all, and if they love anyone or anything beyond themselves. This is important to him because he says we must have love because our spirits need it and that it will destroy us. (If you do not love, you are the lowest of the animals)
