hypoxia and its types Flashcards
1
Q
what is hypoxia
A
insufficient supply of oxygen to the body cells
2
Q
what are the types of hypoxia
A
hypoxic
hypemic
histotoxic
stagnant
3
Q
hypoxic hypoxia
A
- insufficient oxygen to the WHOLE BODY
- altitude increases = pressure decreases ( o2 % stays the same tho)
- decreased pressure become insufficient for the o2 molecules to pass through the respiratory systems membrane
4
Q
hypemic hypoxia
A
- INABILITY of the BLOOD TO CARRY o2
- may be a result of insufficient blood (bleeding or blood donation), anemia or CO poisoning
5
Q
hypemic hypoxia
A
- INABILITY of the BLOOD TO CARRY o2
- may be a result of insufficient blood (bleeding or blood donation), anemia or CO poisoning
6
Q
histotoxic hypoxia
A
- INABILITY of the BODY CELLS to USE the o2 supplied by the blood
- caused by suing alcohol or drugs
7
Q
stagnant hypoxia
A
- blood NOT FLOWING efficiently
- caused by heart problems, excessive acceleration (Gs), shock, or a constricted blood vessel
- cold temperatures can restrict circulation & decrease blood supplied to the extremities
