HYPOXIA Flashcards
TYPES OF HYPOXIA
- Hypoxic
- Hypemic
- Stagnant
- Histotoxic
HYPEMIC HYPOXIA
Cause by a reduction in the Blood’s carrying capacity. Blood loss most common cause. Carbon mon oxide, nitrites, and sulfa drugs, form compounds with and reduce the amount a hemoglobin available to combine with oxygen.
HYPOXIC HYPOXIA
Occurs when there is not enough oxygen in the air or when decreasing atmospheric pressure prevents diffusion of oxygen from the lungs to the bloodstream.
STAGNANT HYPOXIA
Blood’s oxygen-carrying capacity is adequate but circulation in inadequate.
HISTOTOXIC HYPOXIA
Results from an interference with use of oxygen by body tissues. Alcohol, arctics, and certain poisons such as cyanide interfere with the cells ability to use an adequate supply of oxygen.
STAGES OF HYPOXIA
Indifferent (98-90%O2) 00-10 Thousand
Compensatory (89-80%O2) 10-15 Thousand
Disturbance (70-70%O2) 15-20 Thousand
Critical (69-60%O2) 20-30 Thousand
PREVENTION OF HYPOXIA
Limit Time At Altitude
Use Supplemental Oxygen
Use A Pressurized Cabin
TREATMENT OF HYPOXIA
Give individual 100% oxygen. If not Available descend below 10,000 feet in mandatory.
HYPOXIA DEFINED
Hypoxia results when the body lack oxygen. It is generally associated with flights at high altitude.
