Hypothesis Testing And Probability L3 Flashcards
In statistics what do we test?
We test whether the null hypothesis is true. Ideally the null will be rejected, signifying that there is a relationship/difference not due to chance. This occurs when p<0.05
What is a type 1 error?
When you reject the null hypothesis when it is actually true
What is a type II error?
When you don’t reject the null hypothesis when it is false
What is a problem with significance testing?
When you run a test there is a 5% chance that iis due to sampling error, running multiple tests increases likelihood of an error occurring.
What does power refer to?
The probability of rejecting the null hypothesis when the null hypothesis is false.
It ranges from 0-1 and more participants yields more power.
