Hypothesis Testing Flashcards
Confidence Intervals
An interval in which we are very confident the population proportion lies. Is frequently 95%.
Null Hypothesis
Is the hypothesis to be tested. Assumed true until the data indicates otherwise. Typically the null hypothesis assumes no effect.
Alternative Hypothesis
Contains all values that would lead us to reject the null hypothesis. If it is rejected we have established support for the alternative hypothesis.
P-value
Probability of obtaining a value of the test statistic as large as the one computed from the sample data if the null hypothesis is true. The smaller the P-value, the less likely Ho is to be true and therefore the more evidence there is against it. reject Ho if P<0.05 (5%).
Statistically Significant
If the decision is to reject the null hypothesis then the results are said to be statistically significant.
