Hypothesis Flashcards
AIM definition
Intended purpose of the investigation
Alternative hypothesis
A precise and testable statement that predicts a difference or relationship (correlation)
The null hypothesis
Statement that predicts there will be no relationship or difference found in a investigation
Alternative hypothesis - directional hypothesis
State direction of predicted difference/relationship between conditions from previous research
Alternative hypothesis - non directional hypothesis
States there will be a difference but not what that will be - no previous research or it’s inconsistent
Dependant variable
Variable that is measures
Independent variable
Manipulated by research - what is changed
Operationalise
How it’s measured - making it very clear how the key variable were manipulated/measures so that the hypothesis can be written in a way that can be tested by many psychologists in the exact same way
