Hypothesis Flashcards
What are the types of hypothesis
2) Directional (one tailed) hypothesis
3) Non-directional (two tailed) hypothesis
4) Null hypothesis
Explain directional (one tailed) hypothesis
-Clearly states that the iv will affect the dv and the direction of effect
e.g
sugar consumption will increase the activity levels of children.
-The direction of change is clearly stated
words used with it are;
-Longer vs shorter
-Increase vs decrease
-More vs less
-Positive vs negative
Explain non-directional (two tailed) hypothesis
-The direction of change is not clearly stated.
The iv and dv will have an effect on eachother but it does not specify what effect this will be.
e.g sugar consumption will affect the activity levels of children.
Explain null hypothesis
-This predicts that any changes between the iv and dv are due to chance and not an effect from the experiment.
