Recombinant IGF-1, simulates IGF-1 receptors
Restores growth in pts with GH receptor mutation or IGF-1 deficiency resistant to GH.
What is pegvisomant?
Blocks GH receptor
Decreases effects of excess GH
Tx- Acromegaly
What is atosiban?
Blocks oxytocin receptor
Decreases uterine contractions
Used for preterm labor
Lithium side effect- in kidney ? In thyroid ?
Kidney- nephrogenic diabetes insipidus
Thyroid- hypothyroidism
What drugs cause SIADH?
Vinblastine, Vincristine
SSRI, MAOI, TCA
Carbamazepine
What visual field defect is caused if optic chiasm is damaged by pituitary adenoma? What drug can you use to treat?
Bitemporal hemianopia
Tx- bromocriptine
Which kind of pituitary adenoma need surgery?
Macroadenoma of pituitary- trans-sphenoidal approach
Why is desmopressin used to treat bleeding disorders?
Activates vasopressin- in kidney decreases excretion of water. Outside of kidney increases factor 8 and von willebrand factor. Also treats nocturnal enuresis.
