When managing a PT with a hypotensive episode. What should you do?
A
- Rest patient for 5-10 mins
- Reassess blood pressure
- Consider and question anti-hypertensive medications
Considerations:
- Orthostatic BP drop of >20 mmHg
- Inadequate rise in BP <20 mmHg with increasing intensity
- SBS drops >10 mmHg below resting despite increase in intensity

If BP <80/55 and symptomatic
A
- Counselled, not permitted to exercise
- Lay down and rest
- Reassess / Supervisor . Clinical Nurse
- QAS
- Documentation in chart

If BP <80/55 asymptomatic
A
- Counselled and not permitted to exercise unless prior history and medical confirmation
- Documentation in chart
- Letter to GP
- Establish safe transportation home

If BP >80/50 Asymptomatic (Sitting and Standing)
A
Use clinical judgement to facilitate safe exercise
