When managing a PT with a hypotensive episode. What should you do?

A
  • Rest patient for 5-10 mins
  • Reassess blood pressure
  • Consider and question anti-hypertensive medications

Considerations:
- Orthostatic BP drop of >20 mmHg
- Inadequate rise in BP <20 mmHg with increasing intensity
- SBS drops >10 mmHg below resting despite increase in intensity

If BP <80/55 and symptomatic

A
  • Counselled, not permitted to exercise
  • Lay down and rest
  • Reassess / Supervisor . Clinical Nurse
  • QAS
  • Documentation in chart

  • Counselled and not permitted to exercise unless prior history and medical confirmation
  • Documentation in chart
  • Letter to GP
  • Establish safe transportation home
