How may hypodontia present to you?
Delayed or asymmetric eruption, retained or infra-occluded primary teeth, absent deciduous tooth, tooth form
What abnormal tooth form may you see with hypodontia
Tapered upper central, canine long and spindly
Associated problems with hypodontia
• Microdontia (most common)
• Malformation of other teeth
• Short root anomaly
• Impaction
• Delayed formation and/or delayed eruption other teeth
• Crowding and/or malposition of other teeth
• Maxillary canine/first premolar transposition
• Taurodontism (elongated pulp chambers)
• Enamel hypoplasia
Altered craniofacial growth
What potential problems could hypodontia lead to?
Spacing, drifting, over-eruption, aesthetic impairment, functional problems (not common)
