Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Flashcards
1
Q
HOCM Overview
A
- Most common inherited cardiac disorder
- Number one cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes
2
Q
Clinical Features of HOCM
A
- Exertional syncope or pre-syncope. (Suggests left ventricular outflow tract obstruction +/- ventricular dysrhythmia)
- Pulmonary congestion from LV dysfunction (Exertional dyspnoea, fatigue, orthopnoea, PND)
- Chest pain - Anginal-like
-Palpitations due to supraventricular or ventricular arrhythmia
3
Q
Examination Findings
A
- Double Apical Impulse
- Split second heart sound
- Apical impulse displaced laterally.
- Systolic ejection crescendo-decrescendo murmur
- Holosystolic murmur at the apex.
4
Q
ECG Findings of HOCM
A
Voltage Criteria for LVH
- Deep narrow Q waves in I, aVL, V5-V6
