Causes of hypertension

A
  • renal parenchymal disease
  • renovascular e.g. renal artery stenosis
  • polycystic kidney disease (autosomal recessive and domiant)
  • renal tumours
  • coarctation of the aorta
  • pheochromocytoma
  • neuroblastoma
  • congenital adrenal hyperplasia
  • Cushing syndrome or corticosteroid therapy
  • hyperthyroidism
  • essential hypertension

A
  • vomiting
  • headaches
  • facial palsy
  • hypertensive retinopathy
  • convulsions
  • proteinuria
  • faltering growth and cardiac failure in infants
  • paroxysmal palpitations and sweating in pheochromocytoma
