Hypersenstivity Flashcards
Myasthenia Gravis
Type II
Abs to ACh receptor, blocks it, activate complement+neutrophils to muscle -> destroy muscle
Graves Disease
Type II
Hyperthyroidism
Abs to TSH receptor, blocks it, compensate by making even more TSH
Dressler’s Syndrome
Type II
Make Abs to cardiac cells after an MI
Goodpasture’s Syndrome
Type II
Make Abs to BM of kidney/liver, destroy kidney via complement
Autoimmune thrombocytopenia purpura
Type II
Abs to platelets which are removed in the spleen
A lot of bleeding
Rheumatic heart disease
Type II
Post streptococcal infection
Cross-reaction between strep M-protein antigen and structure on heart’s endothelial lining (lamin on heart valves) -> Neutrophil mediated tissue destruction of valves
Rheumatic fever
Type II
Ab to CNS and skin as well as heart
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis
Type II
Hypothyroidism
Abs to thyroid antigens (thyroglobulin and thyroid peroxidase)
HIV: Abacavir, HLA-B5701
Abacavir = nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor HLA-B*5701 = class I MHC
Abacavir hypersensitivity syndrome → drug induced autoimmune reaction, T cell immune response
Now we test for HLA-B*5701 allele before offering drug
Sjogren’s syndrome
Type IV
T cells attack exocrine glands
Type I Diabetes
Type IV
T cells attack beta cells of pancreas
Rheumatoid Arthritis
Anti-IgG IgM (Rheum. Factor)
