What is hypermobility due to?
A
Laxity of ligaments, capsules and tendons

Who is HSD more common in?
A
- Familial link
- Females
- Asian people
- Usually presents in childhood/young adulthood

What are the symptoms and signs of HSD?
A
- Pain around joints worse after activity but also also generalised pain and fatigue
- Soft tissue rheumatism
- Skin - Papyraceous scars, hyper extensible, thin, striae
- Marfan’s
- Arachnodactyly
- Drooping eyelids, myopia (short sightedness)
- Hernia’s and uterine/rectal prolapses

What are non-drug treatments of HSD?
A
- Strengthening exercises to reduce joint subluxation
- Improve posture and balance
- Advice on goal setting
- Specialist pain management input
