How to identify cardiovascular risk

QRISK2
10 year risk if 10% or higher

Primary prevention
A
If QRISK2 >10% or most type 1 diabetics or CKD if eGFR <60ml
Atorvastatin 20mg OD

Secondary prevention
A
Known ischaemic heart disease or cerebrovascular disease of peripheral artery disease
Atorvastatin 80mg OD

Measuring lipid levels
A
Total cholesterol and HDL
Full lipid profile before starting statin

Follow up for people started on statins
A
At 3 months repeat full lipid profile
If non-HDL cholesterol has not fallen by at least 40% concordance and lifestyle changes should be discussed
Increase dose to 80mg
