A
Na retention- can cause HA, HTN
K excretion- weakness, fatigue, dysrhythmias, metabolic alkalosis

A
Low K/glucose
Dyslipidemia
Polycythemia
low WBC

Treatment for hyperaldosteronism
A
adrenalectomy to remove tumor- high dose corticosteroids given during and after surgery
Preop: K sparing diuretic Antihypertensives Potassium supp Na restrictions High protein diet
Post op:
- Inc. risk hemorrhage
- Instabilities in BP, fluids, electrolytes

Acute adrenal insufficiency
A
Can happen r/t adrenal surgery for hyperaldosteronism
Vomiting Weakness Dehydration/Hypotension Joint pain Pruritis (itchy) Emotional problems
