hydroxyapatite crystal deposition in supraspinatus tendon
release of collagenases, serine proteinases and IL-1
acute and rapid deterioration

A
acute onset severe shoulder pain

A
x-ray

what is seen on x-ray?
A
calcification proximal to greater tuberosity

what is management?
A
NSAIDs, steroid and anaesthetic injections for pain relief
usually self limiting
physiotherapy
surgical removal
