What is the water cycle
How water gets from the sea, becomes rain, forms rivers and flows back into the sea.
Evaporation
Heat causes water vapour to rise up into the atmosphere.
Condensation
The water vapour cools and condenses, forming clouds
Precipitation
The droplets in the cloud get too heavy and are dropped as rain or snow
Surface Water
Some rain falls onto land and joins rivers or streams
Infiltration
Some water sinks into the soil
Throughflow
The water moves through the soil to the bottom of the slope
Groundwater
Some water can be found in rock
Percolation
When water moves into hard rock
Transpiration
Water evaporates from the damp ground and released by leaves on plants and trees.
Interception
When rain is intercepted by trees
