Hydraulics + Pneumatics Flashcards
Hydraulics?
A mechanical function that operates using the force of water and liquid pressure.
Pneumatics?
A mechanical function that operates using the force of air.
Uses of hydraulics?
Gasoline pumps
Vehicle repair and maintenance
Airplanes
Dishwashers
Uses of pneumatics?
Bicycle pumps
Salon chairs
Breaks on vehicles like buses and trucks
Jackhammer
Pascals Law
Any pressure on a trapped fluid is transmitted equally throughout the fluid
Pressure/Force/Area
(Hydraulics)
As the fluid moves through the cylinder, it forces the piston to go upward.
Fluid pressure increases as the system continues to go up and down.
To create a larger force, the pressure is applied to a larger area.
Pressure/Area/Force
(Pneumatics)
The air in a pneumatic system is pushed into the cylinder by a compressor and pipe system.
This pressure applies a force to the piston and moves it to the other end. If there are two ends, they apply force into two directions.
