Buoyancy Flashcards
1
Q
What is buoyancy?
A
An upward force used (exerted) by a fluid
2
Q
Buoyant force
A
The force used (exerted) on an object by a liquid
3
Q
Calculating buoyancy
A
- Find the weight in air using a spring scale
- Submerge the object to find it’s weight in liquid
- Subtract the weight in air by weight in liquid
4
Q
Gravity?
A
The force that attracts an object toward the center of the earth
5
Q
3 Types of Buoyancy (Positive)
A
The object is floating
Buoyant force > gravity
6
Q
3 Types of Buoyancy (Negative)
A
The object is sinking
Gravity < buoyant force
7
Q
3 Types of Buoyancy (Neutral)
A
The object is in the middle
Gravity = buoyant force
