Hyde's Soho Property Flashcards
Hyde’s Soho property is described as being surrounded in “mysterious fog”
This creates an unsettling and uncomfortable atmosphere as the fog is creepy and creates a sinister atmosphere.
The street is also described as “seething with many ragged children”
This shows that the area is in wealthy, which contrasts with Jekyll’s mansion. This quote also reflects Hyde’s nature as Hyde comes across as un-wealthy and lower class because of the way his appearance is described.
Inside of Hyde’s soho property, there are “luxurious furnishings”
This shows that beneath Hyde and hidden away still remains Jekyll, this creates the disturbing idea that the evil is coming from within Jekyll and not Hyde as many people think.
Soho is described as “like a district of some dirty in a nightmare”
This shows that, with help to the mysterious fog, there is a dingy and unpleasant atmosphere surrounding Soho. Which is well known for crime.
Hyde’s property is described as being in “a dismal quarter of Soho”
This also shows how unpleasant Soho is due to the connotations of the word “dismal”. “Dismal” has connotations of something that is gloomy or dull.
