Depth of sea at least 60m
Warm seas - at least 27 degrees
5 degrees -15 degrees north and south of the equator

What happens first?
A
As hot air travels over the sea, it rises from the ocean taking hot air with it

Clouds are formed

A
More air rises and begins to spiral rapidly

Thick clouds produce heavy rain

A
Colder air sinks in the middle of the hurricane - this is the eye of the hurricane

A
Warm seas provide energy for storms. When the hurricane reaches land it stops.
