What happens during chapter 1 a real bad egg?
Ricky Baker, a trouble 13 year-old boy is sent to live with Bella in rural New Zealand. Bella an optimistic woman welcomes Ricky despite his reputation as a troublemaker. It’s introduced to her husband Hec who is less welcoming. Bella makes him feel at home giving him books and setting up his room. Ricky tries to run away but eventually returns and Bella shares stories about her life in the bush. She teaches him some life skills though he shocked by the brutality of killing animals. On his birthday Bella surprise him with a dog named Tupac but soon after Bella unexpectedly dies leaving Ricky and Heck to deal with the aftermath.
