This is the Hungarian term for “late harvest.” Indicates a wine that is late harvested and not necessarily an Aszu wine.
What are the rules for a Bikavér wine from Eger?
Must be 4 grapes with 30-50% kekfrankos. No one grape may be less than 5% or more than 50%.
Wines must be aged in barrel 6 months and released November 1 the year following harvest. There are two other age designations as well:
-Bikavér “Superior” is aged 12 months in barrel and 6 months in bottle. Released September 1 the second year of harvest
-Bikavér “Grand Superior” is aged 16 months in barrel and 6 months in a bottle. Released September 1 the second year.
Bikavér must macerate for 8 days- and Superior and Grand Superior 14 days.
Varieties permitted: Kekoporto, Kedarka, Blauburger, Zweigelt, Cab Franc, Cabernet, Merlot, Menoire, and Syrah.

Translates to “off the vine.” Whole clusters of grapes are harvested and fermented with or without botrytis. Fermented together under a veil of yeast. Can be fermented sweet or dry.
