Humerus Flashcards
What type of bones is the humerus
Long bone
What are the ends of the humerus
Upper (proximal) end
Lower (distal) end
Describe the upper end of the humerus
The medial part of the upper end is rounded and it is called Head of the humerus
It is sited in the glenoid cavity of the scapulae
What are the necks of the humerus
Anatomical neck , surgical neck
Describe the position of the anatomical neck
Medially: between the head and the humerus shaft
Laterally: between the head and the two tubercles
Describe the position of the surgical neck
Below the tubercles
Why is it called surgical I neck
Because fractions often happen on it
What are the names of the two tubercle of the humerus
Greater tubercle
Lesser tubercle
Where are the two tubercles located
Behind anatomical neck of the humerus
What is the function of the two tubercles
Attachment for rotator cuff muscles
What separated the two tubercles of the humeras
Intetubercular groove or (intertubescular sulcus or bicipital groove)
What is the name of the extintion of the greater tubercle
Lateral lip of the intertubercular groove
What is the name of the extinction of lesser tubercle
Medial lip of the intertabercular groove
How do we look at the upper part of the humerus to see greater and lesser tubercle
Posteriorly: we see greater tubercle but not lesser tubercle
In what position can we see greater tubercle
Laterally, superiorly, antiorly, posteriorly
