HUMB2006 Flashcards
What is the Ventilstory Thershold?
The body can no longer rely on the aerobic system in the body to get enough oxygen to the lungs, so the anarobic system steps in. In other words it’s the break point at which the body now has to reply on the anarobic system. Also called the T vent, VTor anarobic threshold.
Peripheral Receptors - what are they
Baroreceptors, Chemosreceptors, Mechanorecpetors and Metareceptors
Baroreceptors
Regulates the blood pressure - it detects a change in the blood pressure then tells the cardiocascular centre (medulla) to send the a signal to decrease/increase blood pressure - helps regulate BP to match the intensity of exercise and drop BP to pre-exercise levels after
Chemoreceptors
Detects the chemical changes in the blood, in particular PO2 (particial pressure of oxygen), PCO2 (partical pressure of carbon dioxide) and H+ (hydrogen ions). Results in regulating respiratory and cardiovascular to maintain homestatis.
Mechanoreceptors and Metareceptors
Located in the joints and muscles of body, play role in exercise pressor reflex. During exercise or even passive limb movement that results in muscle contraction these receptors are stimulated.
