Largest Mangrove forest, very flat and low lying with many silty islands. Home to many rare species of plants and animals.
What are the opportunities of Sundarban?
1) flat fertile land perfect for growing crops like rice. Rich ecosystem= source of fish crab rice and honey.
2) mangrove forest provides natural defence against flooding and coastal erosion.
3) Tourism
What are the risks of Sundarban?
1) lack of fresh water
2) mangrove forests are being removed to make space for growing population
3) flooding makes fertile land not
4) dangerous animals like tigers
5) low lying land is exposed to rising sea leaves
6) only 1/5 of houses have electricity, meaning people don’t receive flood warnings
How has resilience played a part in protecting the Sundarbans regions?
1) public health engineering department is increasing access to clean water.
2) better roads and bridges
