From the bottom to the top explain Maslow’s hierarchy of need
Physiological - breathing,food,water,sleep,homeostasis and sex
safety - security of the body, of employment, resources, morality and family
love/being - family, friendship and sexual intimacy
esteem - self-esteem, respect for others/ respect from others
self-actualisation - morality,creativity,problem solving and lack of prejudice and creativity
what is the humanistic approach?
focuses on conscious experiences rather than on behaviour particularly free will
what is free will?
the ability to act to one’s discretion i.e to chose to behave without external forces
what is conditions of worth?
conditions imposed on an individual’s behaviour and development that are considered necessary to earn positive regard from significant others. An individual may receive self-acceptance when they reach this
what is cogruence?
if there is a similarity between a person’s idealised self and self-image state of congruence exists a difference represents a state of incongruence
what is focus on the self?
our own personal identity
used synonymously with terms such as self image and self concept
what is self actualisation?
believed that individuals attain self actualisation in the form of peak experiences. Maslow used it to explain the final stage in the hierarchy of needs
what is hierarchy of needs?
the motivational theory proposed by Maslow displayed as a pyramid the most basic needs are at the bottom and higher needs at the top.
