pts physical and emotional safety, pt is not pressured, works best when environment is natural and normal, ask about personal experiences of violence
Basics of interviewing
establish rappor, start with open ended questions, patient is relaxed with eye contact, only in a safe environment
Red Flags
serious injuries, multiple previous clinic visits, failure to seek timely medical care, sexual activity under the age of 14, injuries not consistent with the story, inadequate supervision, bruises in multiple stages of healing
Mental health affects
depression, anxiety, flat sullen affect, withdrawal, impulsive anger
