Human variation and genetics Flashcards

1
Q

What is genetic variation and how does it contribute to evolution?

A

All life forms vary genetically within a population. Variations affect the fitness of the animal and its ability to survive within its environment. Variations that allow for one animal to survive and reproduce longer will become more prevalent in the population

Q

How is the color of human skin determined?

A

Skin and hair color are principally genetically determined and are due to variation in the amount, type, and packaging of melanin polymers produced by melanocytes secreted into keratinocytes.
