human tissue act & types of tissue Flashcards
where do the bodies come from?
Bodies come from bequests, not condemned criminals or unclaimed bodies
what is informed consent?
people while alive made the free choice to donate their bodies
what are prosections?
dipped in silicon so that nothing bad happens when we touch them - lasts for a long time
what is the human tissue act?
- voluntary donation of bodies
- requires dual signed consent by the donor and an immediate family member
- most bodies are held for 18 months, however can be kept for longer period for teaching and research
what are the four different tissues that make up the body?
- epithelial tissue
- connective tissue
- muscle tissue
- nervous tissue
what does an atom combine to form?
molecules
what do molecules interact to form?
cells
Cells that secrete and regulate are called -
extracellular material (stuff outside of cell)
the cell and extracellular material form to combine -
tissues
why does tissue have different physical properties and different structures of what they look like?
because the cell and extracellular material are different then we can classify things based on what is similar and different
what is epithelial tissue
made up of sheets of cells that are tightly held together - not a lot of space between them
why do they provide excellent physical protection?
because there is not a lot of space between them
how does epithelial tissue control permeability?
epithelium and skin help with permeability
what tissue secretes things?
epithelial tissue
what are epithelial glands?
is folding that tissue to fit more cells into a small area so there can be concentrated secretions
what are two different types of glands?
- exocrine glands
- endocrine glands
