What are human rights
These are rights which apply to all people r cannot be removed
What are civil liberties
- freedom of speech
- Freedom of assembly right to protest
- freedom of the press
- right to trial by jury
- freedom of religious worship

Used in US Declaration of Independence + universal HR
Why was the magna carter 1215 significant
This was the first attempt at limiting the power of the monarch and basis of first civil liberties in the UK inc :
- right to trial by jury
What was the HRA 1998
Law binding to all public bodies that they had to abide by the guidance of HR
Though it was established i 1998 didn’t come into play until 2000

Lowered the threshold for putting conditions on protests
Opposition to the PCSC 2022
This was blocked by the House of Lords and this could be imposed on someone who had been at 2 or more protests in 5 years
What is the Freedom of Information act 2000
This act had allowed UK citizens to have greater access to information held by officials. However the uk was behind countries like the US what had passed similar laws before. Prior to the FOI act citizens in the uk had no right to see any information held by public bodies. The act helped reforms
1997 labour gov came to power and passed the act
FOI act 2001 example
MP Zagawie used taxpayers money to fund the heating for his stables. There was another MP who had used the moony to get a luxurious duck house
What was the Equality acts 2010
Was a way to protect individuals with unique characteristics and against discrimination in the workplace

- race
- gender
- disability
- religious beliefs
- Sexual orientation
- Marriage / civil partnership
Acts before the equality act >2010
Race relations act 1965
Outlawed discrimination against a person based on their race / ethnicity
Equal pay act 1970
Employers offer equal pay to men and women doing the same job - gender pay gap
these acts failed to establish equality fully on marginalised groups like people with disblities or the LGBTQIA+
