what is human rights
HR are basic claims & entitlements that, many argue, one should be able to exercise simply by virtue of being a human being.
POSITIVE rights
Rights you need to be provided with
Expands the role of government
Others must help you in some way
A service of some kind must be provided
Known as “entitlements”
NEGATIVE rights
Rights you are born with
Limits the Government
Others cannot interfere with you
No government action is required in order for these rights to exist
Known as “liberties”
Libertarians
Political philosophy that upholds liberty as a core principle.
Providing a positive right for one you are taking away a negative right of another
Socialists
Lower Economic developed countries appreciate positive rights while more economically developed countries value negative rights more.
