Meaning of an employment contract
employment contract is an agreement between the employer and the employee and its legally binding
Aspects that should be included in an employment contract
-personal details of the employee
-details of the business eg employers name&address
-job title/position
-probation period
Legal requirements of the employment contract?
-The employer and the employee must both sign the contract
-employer and employee must agree to any changes
-the employment contract should include a code of conduct/ethics
- it may not contain any requirements that are in conflict with the BCEA
Requirements for terminating an Employment contract?
-the employer may dismiss an employee for valid reasons eg misconduct
-The employer may be retrenched
-employee resigns
-mutual agreement between employer& employee
meaning of Induction
new employees are familiarised with their new physical work environment
Purpose of induction
-give new employees a tour of premises
-make new employees feel welcome by introducing them their physical work space
-improve skills through in-service training
-communicate information about the products/services attached by the business

-businesses who cannot offer fringe benefits fail to attract skilled workers

-promotes the rights of employes/employee as outlined in the constitution
