Recruitment definition
When a business looks for possible candidates to fill a job vacancy

Selection definition
Where the business chooses the most suitable candidate to fill the job vacancy.
Two types of recruitment
Internal recruitment
External recruitment
Internal recruitment
Where a business looks for someone inside of their business to fill a job vacancy, which makes them more reliable but can lead to more job vacancies.
External recruitment
Where the business looks for candidates outside of their business, this can lead to more diverse expertise and different ideas but can be less reliable as you don’t already know them.
Recruitment agencies
Recruitment agencies are businesses which specialise in finding suitable candidates for a job vacancy for in other business, they are expensive though so not all businesses use them despite their expertise.

Contract of employment
A document which outlines all of your duties to the business and your pay, holiday and working hours. Both you and the employer will get a copy so that if anything isn’t being completed then the HR department can refer back to the document.
Job description
A document used to outline all of the relevant job criteria and tasks
Person specification
A document made by the HR department to outline what type of person the business is looking for an ideal candidate.

Reasons businesses train their staff
To ensure they complete all of their tasks on time and to a high enough standard, it also increases the reliability of external selection.
Can increase the productivity and motivation of employees.
