Human physiology and exercise Flashcards
What is the purpose of tendons attached to the valves of the heart
To keep the valves from folding inside out
What is cardiac output and how do you calculate it?
The volume of blood pumped out the heart per minute.
Q (L/Min) = SV x HR
What are the typical values of an untrained individuals’ heart at rest?
Q = 5.6 L/min
HR = 70 bpm
SV = 80 ml
How do you calculate mean arterial pressure (MAP)?
MAP = diastolic + ((systolic-diastolic)/3)
What are the “typical” values for blood pressure?
Systolic - 120mmHg
Diastolic - 80mmHg
MAP - 93mmHg
what does the CNS consist of?
everything inside the spine and skull which includes the cortex, subcortical structures, nuclei and the spinal cord
What does the PNS consist of?
Nerves which exit and enter the spine along with ganglions
What does the sematic system involve?
It involves the peripheral nerves exiting the spine and contacting the muscles to stimulate them
What does the autonomic system control?
the lungs, heart, smooth muscle, exocrine and endocrine glands.
Working together to keep the internal system in balance
What makes up the autonomic system?
The sympathetic system and parasympathetic system
What is the sympathetic also known as
the fight or flight
What is the parasympathetic also known as
rest and digest
