Q

What is Benedict’s reagent?

A

Used to test for glucose. Add reagent to sample and heat. Positive test produces precipitate – colour changes from blue through yellow to red

16
Q

What is maltase?

A

Converts maltose to glucose

17
Q

What does the liver do?

A

Produces bile - neutralises stomach acid and emulsifies fats

18
Q

What is the oesophagus?

A

Muscular tube that connects mouth and stomach

19
Q

What does the gall bladder do?

A

Stores bile before it’s released into the small intestine

20
Q

What is emulsification?

A

Breaking fat into tiny droplets. Gives bigger surface area for lipase to work on, so digestion is faster

21
Q

What is urea?

A

Waste product, produced in the liver from excess amino acids. Removed in urine
