Q

What is the hypothesis and why is it suitable?

A

The hypothesis is ‘How successful is the regeneration of Cardiff bay?’ and it has a measure of the efficiency and it is an accessible area so it is relatively suitable.

Q

What is the car park count, how does it support the hypothesis, what are the limitations and what improvements could be made?

A

It is primary, quantitative data, where the busier the car park, the better success has been indicated about the regeneration. However we should have done it twice at different times but only had a sample size of 1. Some cars were not in spaces. While counting cars may leave. To improve the test you could increase the sample size at different times and you could count cars coming in and leaving.

Q

What is the pedestrian count, how does it support the hypothesis, what are the limitations and what improvements could be made?

A

It is primary, quantitative data which shows the more pedestrians, the more tourism, showing the success of the regeneration. However it depends on the time of the day as there was only 1 sample, didn’t specify cyclists, it was a weekday, you don’t know where they are going and it was hard to be accurate. Therefore you could take it at different times, further apart and get an average of 2 or 3 tests.

Q

What is the EQS, how does it support the hypothesis, what are the limitations and what improvements could be made?

A

The EQS is a primary, qualitative data source which represents the amount of environmental advancements, the better the feedback, the better regeneration. However it is subjective due to the time of say. There is also a small sample size of only 4

Q

What are questionnaires and, how do they support the hypothesis, what are their limitations and what improvements could be made?

A

Questionnaires are primary, qualitative data where if they like the regeneration it proves a success. However some people could reject questionnaires, the time of day could effect who is present, the data is therefore skewed and the sample size of 20 was small. Therefore we could increase the sample size to 50 but over different times.

Q

What is the pattern in the car park count?

A

We used a proportional diagram which shows that 70% of the carpark was not in use. This method allows us to clearly illustrate how busy the car park is however it has no specific stats.

Q

What is the pattern in the EQS survey?

A

As we got closer to Mermaid Quay, the amount of natural features decreased while the litter increased. However the building quality was good all together gaining 4 +2s. An advantage of using the radar diagram is the fact you can rapidly compare and a disadvantage is that you could compare better if these were placed on a map so you could show spacial relations.

Q

What is the pattern in the pedestrian count?

A

There is a rising pattern starting at 20 by Harbour drive and ending at 40 by Mermaid Quay. However one anomaly is by the National Assembly building where 45 people passed so therefore 2 sets of data may be useful to eliminate any anomolies.
