What does a human environment mean?
The human features are man-made and do not exist naturally. Like agriculture, industry and settlements.
What is a rural environment?
An area where people live on farms and villages with daily activities such as fishing and forestry.
What is an urban environment?
An area where people live in a built-up area such as a town or city with a large number of people and buildings.
What are the features of cities?
Large population size, High population density, Cosmopolitan population and Built-up areas
What are the factors that contribute to the large population size in cities?
Natural increase and Rural-urban migration
What are the two factors that contribute the population growth in cities?
Birth and Death rates
What is Birth rate?
The number of live births per 1000 people per year
What is Death rate?
The number of deaths per 1000 people per year
How is natural increase calculated?
Subtracting the death rate from the birth rate
What is rural-urban migration?
People moving from rural areas to cities to live and work
What is HIgh population Density?
When cities have small land areas but large population sizes
How do you calculate population density?
Taking the total number of people in a particular area divided by its land area (km square)
What is Cosmopolitan population?
A multicultural city
Why is there a cosmopolitan population?
Different cultural backgrounds can interact comfortably because they are open to new ideas and ways of doing things
What are built-up areas?
It is an area filled with buildings and roads
