Human Computer Interface (HCI) Flashcards
What is a command line interface (CLI)
Allows user to interact with a computer using commands, suitable for experts
what is a biometric interface
way to interact with a computer by scanning unique features, e.g. thumbprint, retina scan
What is a touch interface
technology sensitive to touch, e.g. phone screen. users touch translates into instructions by the computer.
what is a graphical user interface (GUI)
interface where a mouse is used to select different graphics/icons. features a WIMP (windows, icons, menus, pointer)
What is a gesture interface
recognizes specific gestures like hand movements as instructions.
what is voice driven interface
allows user to interact with computer via voice commands
advantages of menu Driven
easy to navigate, no need to learn lots of commands
disadvantages of menu driven
Navigation can be a long process, users may become lost in the process
Advantages of CLI
quicker to type/input, little storage space required as there’s no graphics
disadvantages of CLI
commands need to be precise, confusing for novice users
Advantages of GUI
Easy to navigate, no complicated commands to use
Disadvantages of GUI
requires large amounts of storage due to graphics, computing experts will found it to slow
advantages of biometrics
unique method of identification, difficult to forge
disadvantages of biometrics
scanners are very expensive, hygiene issues (germs may be passed onto interface surfaces)
advantages of touch interface
requires no thinking and easy to learn, no keyboard/mouse needed
