Human Cells- Division & Differentiation Flashcards
What are Stem Cells?
Relatively unspecialised cells that can continue to divide and can differentiate into specialised cells of one or more types.
Explain the Cellular differentiation process.
It’s the process by which a cell develops more specialised functions by expressing the genes characteristic for that particular type of cell.
What happens to the unspecialised cells during embryological development?
The cells of the early embryo differentiate into cells with specialised functions.
What do tissue stem cells replenish?
Differentiated cells that need to be replaced and give rise to a more limited range of cell types.
What do somatic cells do?
Divide by mitosis to form more somatic cells.
Somatic cells differentiate to form different types of body tissues, what are they?
Epithelial, connective, muscle and nerve
Mutations in ………….. Are not passed to offspring.
Somatic cells.
