Human cells Flashcards
Describe the function and structure of the the nucleus?
Where chromosomes located , the chromosomes are wound up DNA it is enclosed in a nucluer envelope, there is a double membrane around the nucluer envelope, it also has nucluer pore which go through the membrane to let molecules pass through but not DNA, the nucleus controls the activity of the cell
Describe the structure and function of mitochondria?
It has a double membrane it is heavily folded in a cristate, here there are enzymes involved in respiration and the production of ATP
Describe the function and structure of the nucleolus?
It’s a dense structure inside the nucleus it makes RNA and ribosomes
Describe the function and structure of the endoplasmic reticulum?
It is covered in ribosomes this is where the processes of proteins that are made within the ribosome
Describe the function and structure of the Cell surface membrane ?
This is made up of lipids and proteins it controls the movements of things coming in and out of the cell
Describe the function and structure of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
It is the site of synthesis and processing of lipids.
Describe the function and structure of Golgi apparatus?
This is a fluid filled membrane that produces new lipids and proteins
Describe the structure and function of lysosomes?
It contains digestive enzymes
Describe the function and structure of ribosomes?
Site of protein synthesis.
