Define the term MIGRATION
Migration is the movement of people from one place to another. Migration happens for a range of different reasons. These can be economic, social, political, or environmental. Push and pull factors drive migration
Define what a push factor is and give an example
Push factors are things that ‘push’ someone away from their home. These are negative things that make living there difficult, e.g. Unstable environment, war, or religion
Define what a pull factor is and give an example, this must be different from your example last time
Pull factors are things that ‘pull’ someone to a new country. These are usually positive things that the person can’t find easily in their home country. e.g. jobs, business opportunities, resources, family, freedom, and less pollution
Why was there migration within Europe?
Across trade routes, and circular migration for blacksmiths and acrobats
Why was there migration within Africa?
For religious groups like the Jews or Huguenots to escape persecution or due to seasonal migration for farming work
Why was there migration within Asia?
Because of hunting and agriculture; or because of security
Define the term REFUGEE
Refugees are people who have fled war, violence, conflict, or persecution and have crossed an international border to find safety in another country
Describe two different factors that could lead to a person becoming a refugee
This could be because they have fled war or conflict
Define the term SLAVE
The treatment of a human being as property, without human rights often forced to do labor. They either don’t get paid or get paid very little
List two different jobs that slaves had in the Americas
They would pick cotton and tobacco leaves
Name two continents that were involved in the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade

Describe what an ‘Environmental migrant is (also known as a climate refugee)
People who are unable to live their lives in their homes due to environmental factors and must leave temporarily or permanently. They do not have the same legal rights as normal refugees
Name one country where people living in low-lying coastal areas are in danger of having to relocate due to rising sea levels

List three different ways to save the Maldives
- Gradually lift the ground up with sand
