HUMAN BRAIN STRUCTURE AND THEORY OF MIND Flashcards
Human brain ?
The most complex systems in the human body
Three main parts of the brain structure ?
1) forebrain
2) midbrain
3) hindbrain
Forebrain ?
The largest part of the brain :
- cerebrum
- thalamus
- hypothalamus
Midbrain ?
Smallest part of the brain and central part :
- tegtum
- tegmentum
Hindbrain ?
Lower part of the brain :
- cerebellum
- brain stem
Cerebrum
- The largest part and most complex part of the brain
- LEFT hemisphere (control the movement on the RIGHT SIDE of the body)
- RIGHT hemisphere (control the movement on the LEFT SIDE of the body)
Cerebellum
Control the contraction of the muscle, balance and posture of the body
Medulla oblongata
The lowest part of the brain
Control the involuntary actions such as heartbeat and breathing
Certain refles such as vomiting and swallowing
Hypothalamus
Maintains homeostasis
Coordinating centre for body temperature and blood pressure
Hormone production
Thalamus
Relaying information between the cortex and the brain stem / body’s information relay station
What are the four lobes of the brain / cerebrum ?
1) frontal - associated with part of speech
2) parietal - help in movements
3) occipital - visual processing
4) temporal - recognition of memory
